Pilgrimage to Cézanne’s home, workshop, and mountain

by Callie Archer

We painted Mont Sainte Victoire near Aix-en-Province under the inspiration of Yves then saw a retro of Cezanne`s paintings at his former home.  We were in our element!  A guide imbued us with the legendary history of Cézanne – Yves’ lecture in a Riez café with his computer had been even more comprehensive. A map helped us explore all the spots from which Cezanne painted on the estate.  Monica set us up to go directly to his Chemin des Lauves workshop where Cézanne designed to create his chef d`oeuvres. His cupid, clothing, and still life objects all contributed to a magical experience for us. We virtually met the father of cubism and abstraction.

To enable us to integrate the day, we dined at Le Tracteur in nearby Puimoisson and savoured Provencal cuisine.  Aioli, goat’s cheese ice cream with our cod, and andouillette de canard were a few special items which completed another magnificent day. Thanks to walkthearts for his extraordinary day.

you are certainly wetting our appetites. Literally….!! Suzy
